Q:  What is the difference between TOEFL and IELTS? Are both of those tests acceptable all
      around the world?
A:  Both TOEFL and IELTS are English tests to assess a person’s English language proficiency
based on international recognized standard level. The difference is that TOEFL is more
oriented towards American English, where as IELTS towards British English.

Nowadays, TOEFL which is required by most of overseas institutions is internet based test TOEFL (TOEFL iBT). TOEFL iBT covers 4 skills:
  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Speaking  (the student talks in front of the computer using the headset, and all the responses are recorded in real time)

IELTS also covers the same skills as TOEFL iBT does, the difference is in speaking, in which the student converses directly with the examiner.

Q: Can I take the TOEFL iBT test in ALFALINK?
A:  Yes, you can. ALFALINK is appointed by ETS as an certified TOEFL iBT center. If you need
a complete TOEFL iBT schedule, please visit http://www.alfalink.net/ibt

Q: What should I do if I do not pass the English requirement needed by the university?
A:  There are some solutions you could consider. You could take an English preparation course
in ALFALINK English Course or directly take the preparation overseas.

Q: How long does it take to apply for school and visa?
A: The length of the process may vary, ranging from 2 – 5 weeks, depending on the major, the
level of education, the university and the destination country. However, there are some
majors (e.g.: psychology and medical) which need longer time to process, approximately 6
    months or more.
Universities in America need longer time for the application process, and most of them take 10 months.
As for the visa process, it takes 2 – 3 weeks.

Q: How about the curriculum used in Indonesian schools? Can it meet the entry requirement of
     the university overseas?
A: It depends on the curriculum which is applied by the school. Schools with international
curriculum like IB and A level usually enable students to continue to the first year of
university, while students who are from IGCSE and another national curriculum should take
   foundation or diploma.

Q: How about the accommodation while studying overseas?
A: There are various options you can choose from boarding houses, student apartments,
student hostels (one room), shared house, to homestay.
For further information, visit http://www.alfalink.net/accommodation

Q: What is the difference between living in a homestay and private apartment?
A:
  1. In a homestay, student lives in a house together with a local family, while in a private apartment, student lives independently and is fully responsible to all matters related to the rented property
  2. In a homestay, food is usually prepared by the local family where they live at, while in a private apartment, students should prepare themselves.
Q: Are there any scholarships offered?
A: Scholarships are offered independently by each university. For further information about
    scholarship, please visit http://www.alfalink.net/scholarship

Q: Can I have part-time job?
A: Having a part-time job is allowed for students, but different set of rules are applied in each
country. Full-time university students in Australia are allowed to work part-time for maximum
    of 20 hours/week.
Full-time students in USA are allowed to work part-time within campus only.

Q: Is there any internship program? If any, will the intern get paid?
A: There are some majors offering internship program in which the payment system is
    determined by the company.

Q: If I have already got my bachelor degree in Indonesia, can I continue directly to a master
    degree program overseas?

continue their study without any special requirements. However, some others do have
